What Time Is It?
It Is Never Too Late.
In Matthew 20:1-16, Jesus gave the parable of a landowner who hired different batches of labourers to work on his farm at different times. Two points that made the parable interesting to me are:
He paid the last batch first; 'they each received a denarius' - vs. 9
The first batch 'supposed that they would receive more, but they likewise received a denarius.' This made them very angry, and 'they complained against the landowner'. - Vs 10-11 (I don't blame them, I could have done the same).
I felt paying the last batch first and giving them the same wage was unfair, but God made me realise 'that is Life.'
That got me thinking, and He explained these truths:
With God, there is no seniority. Everybody worked, and on that basis all will be fairly paid. Funny, but it has happened to me before, so I can tell you that the young Christians tend to be all-zeal and fire, outshining many of the older-warriors, 'who have borne the burden and the heat of the day - vs12' and wondering when they'll start receiving their retirement benefits. God’s Word To HIs Children: 'Let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another - Gal 6:4
Complacency subtly creeps in after several years of service. After getting this or that post, and we are enjoying the accolades of being the star on numerous award nights, the natural tendency is to relax and take our first love and diligence for granted. Also, with time, we tend to relax and expect the members to arrive early to carry the speakers and also clean the chairs, ‘at least we are now the Unit Head’. I'm not denying it that the older-warriors should delegate, but we need to watch against complacency. God's Word To His Children: There is still enough work for everybody to do as long as evening hasn't come, and the Landowner hasn't sent His Stewards to call us in to reward us.
And for those who are not serving in the Vineyard yet, it's never late to join. Quit 'standing idle all day, you also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right, you will receive' -Vs 6-7. It's the 11th hour, so get busy. Quit your former ways and join the Army. God's Word To His Children: I can tell you, the rewards are mind-blowing, they are simply out of this world!
It is never too late, Take a good look at what's left of your life and decide to make it count.
